Don't Let Your Social Media Strategy Go on Vacation This Summer

As the dog days of summer settle in, there's one thing on everyone's mind — vacation! Whether you're dreaming of the beach, a boat on the lake, or a far-off exotic destination, you're not alone. In fact, 53% of U.S. adults are planning a summer getaway this year!

However, if you're responsible for managing a social media account — be it for your personal brand or a business — truly logging off can be a challenge. We hear it all the time: “Social media never sleeps.” But taking time to recharge really is essential! It allows you to reset your mind and return with renewed creativity and productivity.

That's why I've put together some valuable tips to ensure your social media accounts thrive while you relax and enjoy a margarita (or two!).

But before we dive in, here's a quick shameless plug… The best way to not worry about your social media strategy — not just during your summer but every day — is by partnering with a trusted marketing agency! With a dedicated team of experts at your fingertips, you won’t have to stress about missing uploads, staying on top of trends, or seizing opportunities to engage with your audience.

However, I understand that isn’t always possible! So, in the meantime, here’s our advice to keep your social media strategy on track:

1. Assign a Second in Command

Okay, maybe you aren’t going away to war per say, but it's still crucial to designate someone to oversee your social media accounts while you're away. This can be a fantastic opportunity for a team member interested in social media who hasn't yet had the chance to dive in.

2. Schedule Your Posts in Advance

If you aren't already scheduling your posts in advance, now is the time to start! Use tools like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or the native scheduling features within platforms like Facebook and Instagram. This ensures your content is supporting your overall strategy, and is prepped and scheduled to go before you’ve even logged off.

3. Be Mindful of What You’re Sharing

Your vacation might not be the ideal time to launch a major giveaway or experiment with controversial trends. Opt for evergreen, low-stakes content that engages your audience without the risk of unnecessary “fires” in your absence. After all, we work in social media, not a firehouse!

4. Set Up Auto-Replies

Take advantage of the auto-reply features available on Facebook and Instagram. These tools can help you quickly address frequently asked questions, ensuring your audience feels heard even when you're not actively online.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Say You’re Away

While some might consider it unprofessional to announce a social media hiatus, it can actually build trust with your audience when used sparingly! For creators, this personalizes your page and makes followers feel like they're part of your real life. For brands, it highlights your commitment to your team's well-being and values.

So there you have it — our top tips to keep your social media game strong while you do anything but think about social media! If you’re heading on vacation this Summer, tell me where in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!
